11 Simple Life Hacks For Social Media Managers

Being a social media manager (or consultant) is not easy.

There are so many things on our plate and so little time. We often try to multitask.

But is it really effective?

Actually, Multitasking makes it more difficult to organize thoughts and filter out irrelevant information, and it reduces the efficiency and quality of our work.

Here are some super simple life hacks you can use to make your life much easier. Enjoy!

1 – The 2-minute rule: If you can do something (like replying to an email, Facebook post or a Tweet) in 2 minutes, do it right now. If it’s going to take longer, schedule it on your calendar

2 – Practice, Practice, and More Practice: If you want to be good at something, do it every day. Including Weekends, Holidays, Christmas, Easter and Judgement Day. No exceptions at all.

3 – Write it down: Do not try to remember tasks. Get everything out of your head. Write it down in a notebook, put it in your todo-list app or  on your phone. Give your brain some much-needed rest.

4 – Practice Timeboxing: For next 30 minutes do only the task at hand. Nothing else: no phones, email, talking to people, Facebook, or Twitter. Nothing else. Just focus on one damn thing.

5 – Say NO: And say it frequently (and consider automation and outsourcing)

6 – Be Smart About Email: Archive or delete emails as soon as you are done reading  them – for stuff you need to keep, You can use tools like OneNote or Evernote. These can be better archive systems than your email client.

7 – Delegate Tasks: I know it can be hard to let go of the control. We love to keep our hands full and want to complete all tasks on our own. But, it’s not smart. It is wise to delegate some tasks to someone you trust or whoever needs the skill. Apart from freeing up your time to complete other very important tasks, it also builds your trust in them and builds up their skills in completing tasks.

8 – Make Small Decisions Daily: It can be scary to make a decision without complete information. But don’t wait for the perfect opportunity – You will end up doing nothing. Make a decision and start taking action.

9 – Sleep More: You have to prioritize your sleep. When you don’t sleep enough you do things sloppy and need to go back and correct.

10 – Practice Meditation: You can meditate for 10 minutes which clears your head and gets you going. It helps you practice focus muscle and you save lost concentration time for the rest of the day.

11 – Singular Focus: Stop multitasking. Focusing hard on one thing only and not giving up until it’s done. It’s much easier to focus on one thing, rather than trying to achieve many goals simultaneously.

Now over to you.
