Many retail brands (especially small ones) are still testing waters when it comes to social media. Here are some of the common questions I get asked by retailers.

B. Is it worth doing paid advertising on social networking sites?

Hell yes, social media without paid advertising is like driving a car without tires. Since social media allows you to micro target, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to test.

C. What kinds of linking should be done between your social postings and your website?

Make sure your social profiles, landing pages and website match with each other (colors, messaging & logos). Also if you have a blog on the website, always share a direct link to your social channels so you can drive people back to the website.

D. How do I increase the sharing of my content across the web?

Here are few things you can do to increase your shares…

1 – Post when most of your fans are online (Facebook Insights)

2 – Use visual content

3 – Cross promote your content on several channels

4 – Create social contests (who does not like to win prizes ?)

E. How do you respond to negative information posted by customers or competitors?

Reach out to the person who left the comment and address the issue. People love it when you make them feel special.

F. How are you using images and videos to improve social engagement?

There is no doubt that people prefer images & videos over text. Create visual content to educate your customers about your brand. e.g.

1 – If you sell leather furniture, educate people on how they can protect leather

2 – If you sell computers, share images about productivity & your latest products

3 – Capture and share video testimonials
